Tower Quest
Rebuilding an online tower-defense game shut down in 2013, with no source code and no files, from a gameplay video and archives.

Tower Quest was a tower-defense game by Carpe Ludem, released in 2011 on Muxxu, Motion Twin’s games portal, and shut down in early 2013. Félicia, a sorceress, and Pairle, her learned blob, won back the Onirica archipelago one island at a time. Nothing playable is left of it.
So the rebuild starts from what survives. A gameplay video was cut into frames and run through text recognition to read off the names and values on screen; the names of the five towers come from the icons of the original site and are confirmed by the video. The archives of a sister game from the same portal, preserved by the community, served as a visual reference. The original art belongs to Motion Twin: it stays out of the repository, and the game draws itself in vector shapes written in code.
The game plays from start to finish: a campaign map of five islands that unlock one after another, five towers with three levels each, five enemies including a boss, a heroine who gains experience and strengthens every tower, stars based on lives left, double speed. Balance is not judged by eye: a script plays all five islands in a driven browser and checks that each one can be won.
It will not be released. The game, its characters and its names belong to their authors; this is an exercise in reconstruction, and it stays private.
