Unity prototypes

A four-player ant race on one keyboard, a car pushing a ball, role-playing game terrains. The Unity projects that stayed off itch.io, brought back under Unity 6 for this page.

Not every Unity project ended up on itch.io. These stayed in a folder, opened with Unity versions from 2020 and 2021. To show them, they were migrated to Unity 6 and built again; the screenshots come from those builds, which still run.

SuperWorms: the main menu, with start, game setup and exit.

SuperWorms. The most complete one: a race for four players on one keyboard, the screen split in four. Each racer is an ant made of spheres, running five laps after a countdown, with its own lap timer. Bubbles on the track give a random item: a yellow or blue carpet, a grey bomb that stays put, an orange one that heads for the nearest opponent, a purple one that bounces off the walls. A bomb hit stuns for three seconds, and bubbles come back after five. A menu, a game setup, an end screen. The list at the top of the main script announces what came next: potions, grands prix over several races, a battle mode.

Rocket League. A car that accelerates, steers, drifts, jumps, double-jumps, rotates in the air and burns its boost, with a camera that can stay locked on the ball. All the driving fits in a hand-written physics script on a rigid body: grip is recomputed when all four wheels touch the ground, and rotation takes over when they do not. The arena itself is just a box. The car models and effects come from Unity Asset Store packages.

The Rocket League take: the car in full boost, the camera locked on the ball.

Role-playing game. Five sculpted and textured terrains, mountains, a plain, a sandy basin, and a third-person character with its movement script. The rest of the folder comes from free packages: vegetation, a character controller, demo scenes. The game itself never started.

One of the five terrains of the role-playing game project, sculpted and textured in the editor.

Networking. A first attempt at an online game with Photon: pick a nickname, create a game or join one by name, up to five players. The login screen still works; the game behind it was never written. The idea waited for BlitzVolley.
